The CBAS-SDP program (17-19th February) which was held under the theme “Science for Development: Ghana Asks, Legon Answers” is part of the College’s contribution to the University of Ghana’s agenda of turning itself into a research intensive world-class university. The Science and Development Platform Program aims among others to provide an opportunity for the faculty of the College to show-case their research findings annually and initiate collaboration between the faculty and industry in a manner that would allow industry to table their research needs/questions for the CBAS faculty to find science based solutions.

The Conference consisted of three plenary and eight (8) thematic sessions, oral presentations and exhibitions and was opened by the honourable minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Professor Chris Gordon who is the ASSAR PI in Ghana and the Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS), delivered the first plenary on “The future of Science for the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, University of Ghana” and also chaired the thematic session on Environment.

The Conference ended with a plenary on how to make research appealing to industry. It was instructive that there needs to be; the development of financially sound and industry-relevant scientific proposals that industry can buy into and a stronger collaboration between industry and the academia.
