Ghana hosts ASSAR and DECCMA consortium meetings

The Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) and the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS) of the University of Ghana will host partner institutions of CARIAA involved in the DECCMA and ASSAR projects during this year's Consortium and Annual meetings. Jointly funded by the UK’s Department for International Development and Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the five-year (2014-2018) projects are focused on understanding and designing adaptations to climatic and non-climatic vulnerabilities in climate change hotspots around the world.
The meetings are Research into-Use (RiU) focused and are intended among others to devise effective ways of ensuring research results and findings are shared with key stakeholders for uptake in policy and decision making processes.

The meetings are scheduled for 2-5th and 25-30th July for DECCMA and ASSAR respectively and will be held at the Royal Senchi Hotel near Akosombo in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

  1. Quite a detailed about ASSAR and DECCMA consortium meetings. I would like to read more about the success of these meetings. Could you share? Actually I am also going to host first business meet at the meeting space San Francisco and your details would be very helpful.

    1. Thanks very much ZERRY HT. The conferences went on very successfully thanks to a strong organising team. I have taken a look at the facilities you shared in the link, they look very good. Because I am not sure of the nature of your meeting I hope the following tips will be useful.

      1. You need to put in place a strong team of organisers, each member of the team must be well briefed about the meeting structure and timelines.
Each team member must be assigned specific 'organising' task with timelines for deliverables (e.g. Mr Johnson is in charge of issuing name tags to all participants, and all name tags must be ready and checked for accuracy a day before the event)

      2. Notify the Event Space Managers about all your requirements (and when those will be needed) for the meeting so they can prepare ahead

      3. Managing your airport transfers is key if international participants are involved. There must be a dedicated person who has all the updated flight and arrival information at all times

      4. Importantly also is how the meeting is structured and facilitated. If your meeting is going to take about 3-5 days, it is important that you have larger or spacious room (or conference space) where the furniture is flexible for re-arrangement in various forms....to allow enough leg space and for easy movement (and each morning or session, e.g. after lunch that the place gets re-arranged or re-organised, it gives a more refreshing appeal and takes away tiredness and boredom). You should also take note to have smaller break-out rooms where groups of 10-15 can meet in groups for discussions and later make presentations in the larger room when everyone re-convenes (depending again on the type of meeting. You must make it a point as much as possible to include few group or evening activities such as games, field visits etc. if time and resources will allow

Finally, make sure the facilitation of the meeting makes it fun. Include some energisers (some to be carried out outside the conference room etc.)after meal times or after long bouts of presentations/talks

I hope these do help you a bit. Wishing you all the best!
