DECCMA REVIEW MEETING

Work package members during the meeting
On April 7 the DECCMA Ghana Team held a review meeting to discuss the progress made by the Work Packages since the last retreat meeting in January.  Apart from the work package 6, all the other Work Packages were present.
All the work packages indicated significant progress in their respective activities. Work package 1 is planning the stakeholder engagement processes for the Governance and Law analysis, the engagements which are expected to run concurrently would commence immediately the questions are submitted by Andrew. The decision to run the Governance and Law in parallel is an attempt to ensure the effective use of the time of the resource persons and also reduce expenditure.

Work Package 2 has completed the hazard and map and completed the 2015 land cover classification (to be validated); the INCA model has been set up and is being run. Training programs have also been held for both Team members and students on the INCA model.

The Work Package is currently carrying out year 2000 land cover classification. As part of activities, the work package will work with others to roll out publications on land cover change and hazards maps. Work Package 3 is currently working towards the household surveys in the sending areas. Household listing was underway was underway at the time of the meeting.

Prior to the household listing, a two-day training session was held for the field workers. The first day focused on the use of the instrument (CAPI) and the questionnaire while the second day was used for piloting the instrument in a nearby community of Abokobi in Accra.

A major challenge to the field work remains the scattered nature of the EAs that makes access difficult and is likely to increase the number of days to be spent on the field. Work Package 4 is still grappling with data on trade at the district level. The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has some data on services and industry at the district level but not on agriculture and crops. The work package was provided with some assistance in terms of contacts to enable acquisition of the needed data for analysis.
Work package 5 has in place a conceptual model and waiting for data from the other work packages. In general, all the work packages expressed concern about the upcoming general elections in Ghana. This was considered as a major risk to the field work. It was suggested that the field work should be carried out as soon as possible to avoid election period.
